My Birthday Getaway in the Hamptons

For my birthday this week, we took a quick trip out to Long Island. We didn't stay in a hotel this time but stayed in my friend's beautiful East Hampton house.  She and her husband were amazing hosts and we biked to nearby Georgica Beach and went to dinner at a place I love, Nick & Toni's.  As usual, I have Post-Hamptons Depression.  Here are a few more things that I loved about this particular journey out there.

Great, laid-back Mexican lunch at The Hideaway in Montauk (it's tough to find!)

My favorite moment: Seeing this couple at sunset on Georgica Beach & watching him brush the sand off her feet when they got in the car!

The Sag Harbor Inn

As I previously wrote, our weekend in the Hamptons was perfect.  Our room at The Sag Harbor Inn was definitely not perfect but was fine for the weekend.  Luckily, we barely spent any time in the room.  I don't think I could have stayed for longer than 2-3 nights given the straight grandmother decor with a bright pastel blue and pink color scheme and motel bedspread.

The view of the harbor was great and the location, five minutes from downtown Sag Harbor, couldn't be beat.  The rooms are spacious and all have a refrigerator.  Free WiFi didn't work the entire time and they weren't too concerned about fixing it.  Though I barely have any desire to get on my computer while in the Hamptons, I still want the option.

I would definitely pay more for a first-floor water view, otherwise you're staring at an ugly parking lot.  Paying more for the second-floor view isn't worth it.

In the high season, these rooms require a 2-3 night minimum and go for up to $459 a night.  Compared to other hotels & inns in the Hamptons, it's a bargain.  But I'll seek out other places to stay next time I head out East.
