Hello from London: a Vlog with Aspiring Kennedy

1.jpg

On a crisp, sunny, beautiful London day last December, I wandered around Kensington Palace and gardens with Lauren Bryan Knight, otherwise known as Aspiring Kennedy. We had lunch at The Orangery at Kensington Palace and ended with tea and scones at Candella. Pretty much the perfect day. And my sister, who now lives in London, joined us at the end!

I first met Lauren in London a few years ago, and she's one of those people that you instantly connect with. She also happens to be really funny, a mom to three adorable kids, and wife to her great husband Tyler. Lauren also really gets travel, and she takes her kids all over Europe. She's also what I consider to be a real influencer (#overusedannoyingword), because people trust her. I work in travel and media, and know hundreds of travel journalists and agents - and while many of them are awesome, I'd take Lauren's recommendations first. (If you're going to London, use her guide! I always do. And here's my England/London guide, just in case.)

We went on a lovely walk and talked travel tips, with and without kids. Here is the full 14-minute chat!

2017 End-of-Year Photo DUMP

What joy it brings to look back on a year in (iPhone) photos. This clump of a zillion photos is basically just for me, to look back on the truly awesome and unforgettable, from Cairo and the great Pyramids on New Year's Day 2017 to spending Christmas in Scottsdale with my family before ringing in 2018. It makes it look like nothing bad, sad, or challenging happened the entire year, which of course, is complete hogwash (but wouldn't that be wonderful). I think this is going to be a big year of change. Taking one, two, three deep breaths...

London: Daylesford Organic in Notting Hill

daylemarket.JPG

I have to come to Daylesford every time I'm in London. It is a really special place especially if you care about where your food comes from. I've been working in travel media for almost five years now and we have the tendency to beat a trend into the ground, like farm-to-table and "local, seasonal, sustainable."

But it still rare for a company to truly live and breathe these philosophies and Daylesford is at the top of the heap, and have been for over 30 years. Their Cotswolds farm is magic, filled with happy, roaming animals, good eats, beautiful clothes and housewares, and happy people.

And a piece of that magic is here in Notting Hill. You leave feeling nourished, loved, inspired - all things that truly good food can do for you.

P.S. - It's hot-cross bun season!

London: Mrs. Kibble's Olde Sweet Shoppe

You're going to inevitably find yourself in Piccadilly Circus on a trip to London, and next time you do, you may want to seek out this tiny, adorable, old-fashioned sweet shop tucked behind the tourist madness in Soho! Mrs. Kibble's Olde Sweet Shoppe isn't very old - it's only been open for about 8 years. But it still feels like you've stumbled on to something special.

There's room for maybe 3-4 people at a time in this nostalgic stop, filled with candy jars, lollipops, retro sweets, gum, chocolate, caramels, and even a few sugar-free varieties. I went straight up classic - some gummi bears and chocolate caramels.

Location: 57a Brewer Street, Soho, London (There is 1 other location near crazy Oxford Street that I'll check out next time I'm in London at 4 St Christopher´s Place - the Soho location is the original)

Reflections on a Another Big Adventure

Last big trip of 2013 - Cambodia! Angkor Wat at sunset

Last big trip of 2013 - Cambodia! Angkor Wat at sunset

Looking back, I actually can't believe it was ME that went to all of these places - a whirlwind of new friends, countless airports, amazing hotels, time with family & friends, thousands of miles traveled by car, plane, helicopter, train, and foot, & many pieces written. It is beyond my wildest dreams where my life and job have taken me in the past few years (reflections on 2011 & 2012).

Thank you for giving me YOUR travel tips, following along on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook, and making me feel less lonely when I'm thousands of miles from home.
